Uttarakhand Tunnel Tragedy: Rescue Operation Faces Hurdles on Day 7

Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand: As the sun sets on the seventh day of the Uttarkashi tunnel collapse rescue operation, challenges continue to mount for the dedicated teams working tirelessly to free the 40 trapped workers. The tunnel, situated on the Brhmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway, witnessed a partial collapse, initiating a complex and protracted rescue mission.

Former Army Chief and Union Minister VK Singh, who visited the site on the fifth day, expressed hope and determination, stating, “We have full hope, and we are trying our best to bring everyone to safety.” However, the evolving situation has presented unforeseen hurdles, extending the expected duration of the operation.

Reports suggest that some of the trapped individuals are experiencing health issues, including headaches and nausea, further complicating the rescue efforts. Despite the challenges, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and the Uttarakhand administration remain resolute in their commitment to ensuring the safety of those trapped.

To bolster the expertise involved, authorities have sought guidance from international sources. Collaboration with experts from Norway and Thailand aims to leverage their experience and insights, providing a multi-faceted approach to the complex rescue mission.

The Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), taking responsibility for drilling operations, has deployed high-end machines transported from Delhi to expedite the rescue efforts. However, as the operation enters its seventh day, the teams face unexpected challenges, and the estimated timeframe for a successful conclusion has been extended.
